Paul and Daniel developed Plumbit for O2 the mobile phone operator. The brief was for a novel mobile device which can be used for a specialist market.
They developed a mobile communication device aimed at plumbers, builders and similar trade businesses who they worked very closely with to understand their needs and desires such as the issues they had with mobile phones becoming damaged or destroyed due to the environment they worked in.
The Plumbit is a tough water resistant product which incorporates features typically used by these tradesmen in their day to day business. It included a large display, hands free phone, GPS, internet, design software, camera, calendar, contacts, receipt generator, radio, parking meter count down, corgi standards and torch. It also includes several safety features such as a carbon monoxide detector, live wire detector and runs on a power drill battery pack. It can also be used as a power cable extension box and drill battery pack charger when plugged into the mains.
The form factor was designed to survive the hostile environment it would be used in. For instance, the 4 non-slip rubber hand grips are designed so that not only is the device easy to pick up and use if the user is wearing gloves but keeps the main body off potentially wet or dirty surfaces when placed on the floor or work surface.
